Several market players in Netherland's optometry market are providing free eye exams in order to attract more clients. It would differentiate the Eye Wish brand from other players, if retinal exams with fundus camera were included in the 'Totaalscan'-eye exam. In the Netherlands, individual optometrist stores have begun adopting fundus cameras and are performing retinal screenings, thus proving how it is indeed legally okay to do so. By doing so, optometrists have found that providing health care services will increase the customer loyalty and the number of touch points with the individual client.
A retinal exam will need to be carried out at least once every year and will allow you to get informed on the clients ocular needs continuously. Providing health related services allows you as a brand, and the individual store, to have more touch points with the client, increasing the possibility of additional sales through more frequent visits to the store.
Insurance providers are also interested in healthier clients, so your current collaboration with health insurance companies (VGZ, Univé, IZZ Zorgverzekering and Menzis) could possibly be expanded to include reimbursement/payment for preventive or yearly screenings for the most common eye-diseases for their clients.
Adopting fully automatic fundus cameras allows for a much quicker and easier approach to taking retinal images. Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in combination with Tele-medicine lowers the cost of each screening, while keeping the accuracy high. AI has the added benefit of allowing your employees to get started with retinal exams much quicker than with ordinary training/educational programmes. This means a lot, when performing a roll-out in your 240 stores!
